We're a comparison site, not the operator — schedules, boat condition and on-the-day organization are the operator's responsibility, not ours.
Sea conditions right now
Rough seas are the main reason fast boats are delayed or cancelled. These estimates come from wave-height forecasts at each port. They're a guide, not a promise: the operator and the port authority decide on the day.
Based on published wave-height thresholds for fast boats and ferries in Indonesia. Not a guarantee. Always check with your operator before you travel.
Which Gili island?
Gili Trawangan is the biggest and busiest of the three, with the most nightlife and the most boat options. Gili Air is quieter but still well connected. Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest, with fewer direct services.
None of the Gilis has cars or motorbikes, so once you land you'll get around on foot, by bicycle or by horse cart (cidomo).
Choosing your departure port
Padang Bai, on Bali's east coast, usually has the shortest crossing, but it's a longer drive from the airport and south Bali.
Serangan and Benoa / Nusa Dua are in south Bali, closer to the airport and Sanur. Crossings from there are longer, and some boats call at other ports or islands on the way.
Put your hotel into the Trip Planner to see real driving times to every port and weigh them against the boat time.
Open the Trip Planner →Stops on the way
Some fast boats run a circuit, calling at more than one port or island. Those stops add to your crossing time, so compare the arrival times in the table.
Checking in
The times on this page are guides taken from the booking site. Check-in is usually an hour before departure, but go by the time on your ticket.
Common questions
How long does the fast boat from Bali to the Gili Islands take?
Crossing times are: Padang Bai to Gili Trawangan: 1h 30m–6h 30m; Padang Bai to Gili Air: 1h 30m–6h 30m; Padang Bai to Gili Meno: 1h 30m–1h 45m; Sanur to Gili Trawangan: 2h 40m–3h 55m; Sanur to Gili Air: 3h–4h 30m; Sanur to Gili Meno: 2h 50m–4h 10m; Benoa / Nusa Dua to Gili Air: 3h; Benoa / Nusa Dua to Gili Meno: 3h. Boats that call at other ports on the way take longer, so compare the Arrives column.
Which operators go from Bali to the Gili Islands?
We list Wijaya Buyuk, Semaya One, Golden Queen Fast Ferry and 6 more operators. These are the operators listed on the booking site when we last checked.
Which Bali port is best for the Gilis?
Padang Bai usually has the shortest crossing, while Serangan and Benoa / Nusa Dua are closer to the airport and south Bali. The right one depends on where you're staying: the Trip Planner shows real driving times to each.
Are there direct boats, or do they stop on the way?
Both exist. Some boats run a circuit and call at other ports or islands on the way to the Gilis. Compare the arrival times above to spot the longer trips.
Can the boat from Bali to the Gili Islands be cancelled?
Yes. Rough seas are the main reason fast boats are delayed or cancelled, and it happens more often in the wetter months (roughly November to March). The sea-conditions estimate on this page is a guide, not a guarantee: the operator and the port authority make the actual call on the day. Leave a buffer before any onward flight rather than booking one for the same day.
Do I need to book in advance?
In peak season, popular morning departures can sell out a day or two ahead. Off-peak you can often book closer to the day. Booking ahead is the safer choice if you have a flight or a connection to make.

How we compile this: We check seven days of departures on the booking page against each operator's own timetable. Only sailings that match on every one of those days are listed here.
